These are our first ideas for our digipak and our basic layout.

Digipak Research

Now we have our music video we are going to make a Digipak to sell and a Magazine Advert to promote our artist Aki Sakura. To get us started we looked at the layouts of Digipaks by other artists.

From typing "Digipak" into Google we found a website called Oasis Disk Manufacturing. This website really helped give us an idea of how a digipak is designed and the layout we would need to follow in order to create our own. We decided the best layout to do is the "4 -Panal Standard" in order to keep it nice and simple.

Another reason we are going to use the 4-Panal Standard is because we went into a Library and looked at Digipaks they had there, thye only had a small selection but from the ones they had we found that ones which were more comlicated were also a bit more difficult to use (with all the folding and CD's in different places and the booklets in slits that were not easy to put them back into.)

After looking at the layout of the case we then looked at the designs on the case and how the designs are layed out. These are some of the designs we have looked at.

From looking at a selection of CD covers we have learnt the conventions we are going to need to use when making our own. Because our artist (Aki Sakura) is a Japanese female rock artist we concentrated on looking at CD covers from simmilar areas. The conventions we have understood are: The way the artist is usualy on the cover, The artists signiture style, The album and atrist name, One the back a list of songs all numberd, a barcode, all of the record lable information, producers names, and all the same scheme as the front of the cover. Now we can come up with our own design and stick to the conventions.

Editing

We have finished editing our video now, the editing process took a while but it turned out really well, we showed our video to 25 people and they all thought it was really good.

Logged and Captured

Today we logged and captured all of our video footage using Final Cut Pro, It was a long process and we had to keep rewinding to get the exact times of the shots.

Animation Ideas

Our music video consists of animations appearing around the artist. We were influenced by the way in which the music video Party Time, by Guardians 4, used the animations to tell a story therefore creating individuality. We used this technique to emphasise the imaginary world created for Aki Sakura.

We also got ideas from Stickers that we baught from Camdon (for fun), Pictures of a variety of japanese cartoon characters (Sanrio etc.)

Progress so far.

We have just finished our first day of filming in Camden, We had to go to the market owner and ask permission to film. We explained what we were doing and we were allowed to film however we were not allowed to use the tripod because it would get in the way of people trying to walk past so we had to do without.

It was really cold in Camden and we were all cold but especially poor Yvonne who had to wear a dress all day.

Our Recki shots really helped us plan where we were going to film and stucture our day and time.

Contacting Artist

Due to copyright issues, we as a group had decided to contact the artist in some form to ask for permission. We found her on Facebook, and wrote a request on her "wall" to let us use her music for our Media project.



A couple of days later, we recived a reply !! We were all very excited ! =D

Video Analysis / Similar video research

Paramore - Brick by Boring Brick

Mis-en-scene.

The first video we used for our analysis was 'Brick By Boring Brick' by the band 'Paramore'. We chose this video due to the content within the mis-en-scene, for example the image below shows the use of artificial lighting and background that helped create a scene.

After Effects.


We also identified the use of after effects within this video, it was beneficial as it influenced our video ideas and we decided to use after effects to create the fantasy world we had anticipated for

costume and props.

In this song we looked at the artist's dress code. She was wearing a white dress, the color here connotes innocence. The artist plays on that by acting the complete opposite as seen at the end of the video, when she watches a girl fall into a dug out grave and instead of helping she throws the girls doll in. By being zombie like and evil as seen in the image below taken from the music video the artist keeps the audience engaged and leaves them asking questions.

The song also has a swing in which the artist is on during the begining of the video. This prop emphasises the innocence as swings are associated with childhood.

Avril Lavigne - He Wasn't

Representation

In Avril Lavignes video for “He Wasn’t” we liked the representation of rebelion. Which is the representation we want for our artist. She does not act all girly instead she is out going and rude. She breaks stuff and can be classed as a “tomboy”.

The way she shakes her body freely without care is an aspect we will use in our video because it is also a convention of a rock video.

The way she is dressed is also a way that rebelion is represented she wears devil horns in some shots. The other clothes she is wearing are punk/skater style and stereotypically skaters and punks are rebels.

The facial expressions are uncaring and she is really just letting go and going wild, that is a representation we want for our artist.

30 Seconds to Mars – From Yesterday

Settings.

This video was filmed in China and it explores the aspects of the land they are exploring in our video we want to do something similar about exploring an area which is representing the artist’s attitude and can relate to the audience. We want to do this in London Camden because we are bringing a Japanese artist who is trying to sell to a British rock audience.


In the video the artists are trying to fit in with their surroundings by wearing the same clothes and joining in with the activities but at the same time you know they are out of place. Our artist is going to be dressed in a rock outfit which we brought in Camden specially.

Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green day

Composition.

This video begins with a long shot which is used to introduced the band and help identify the settings/location.

There are a few close-up shots used in the beging of the video. We chose the first two as they both played a role in introduction of the video.

Throughout the whole video, Green Day have used different shots to represent their brand. This is effective as it sells the brand. An example is the image above as it is the records logo. We decided to use this idea,so we use leaves within the video to represent the records logo. We also had a representation on the front cover.

All this videos contributed some key ideas that were effective in winning audiences.

Artist Research

The pictures above of Nami Tamaki, the original artist of our chosen song, represents a young woman who is not afraid to show her sexuality.

We wanted to create an artist that represented the rock genre, and had some form of individuality. We did some research on similar artists, from American, British and Japanese rock ,such as

• Yuki Isoya- a japanese artist whose dress code and style both influenced the image we chose for our artist.
  



• Hayley Williams- The lead vocal of Paramore, an American rock band. We decided to use this artist as she has the rebelious attitude that we were going for, in the creation of our artist.
  


• And finaly, Love bites- A british girl rock band that influenced our artists character, they showed that a character can act rebelious and at the same time dress sweet and innocent.

All these different artists played a role in the creation of our artist, Aki Sakura.

We have purposely not looked at the meaning of the lyrics, so that we are not influence by them.

This was the anime version of the song (Opening 2 D Gray Man). This is where we had originally heard the song.

As a group we came together and decided to use a Japanese rock song by Nami Tamaki, Brightdown. The reason we used this song was because it was within the genre we had in mind and because we could create our own storyline without it being influenced by the lyrics. Due to this we were able to be more creative and imaginative about what we could do, using props, costume and location.

As a group we came together and decided to use a Japanese rock song, by Nami Tamaki, Brightdown. The reason for choosing this song was because it was within the genre we had in mind and also because it gave us the chance to be creative in many different ways. Due to the song being entirely japanese, we had complete freedom to create a storyline not influenced by the lyrics.
